Mani/Pedi News

It’s always manicure season, and for many it’s always pedicure season, but when the warm weather hits and toes are exposed in those new sandals and heels, it’s time for all of us to get those feet callous free, with nails trimmed, shined, and polished!

DARIEN

Our nail technicians in Darien are gearing up for weddings, graduations and more (our Orange, CT salon too!), and are very excited that the OPI Dip Manicure (powder with no UV light) has really taken off!  Here’s a little advise: if you haven’t had your nails done in ages and want to grow out your own, with no damage to your own nails, then a Dip Manicure is definitely something to try.  It lasts for weeks, another big bonus!

It’s pedicure season (finally warm weather after a long winter)!  Whether you are dying to wear that new pair of sandals or heels, or you know you’ll be spending many days barefoot or in flip flops, we’ve got you covered with our Stefanou Signature Pedicure.  You’ll leave relaxed, feeling pampered, and ready to show off that fabulous new nail color!  It’s time to break out those new sandals (here’s a great pair from Helen Ainson (click here), or that pair of strappy heels and dance the night away at your nephew’s summer wedding (find a pretty pair of heels here)!   Ready to let those feet out of your fuzzy warm socks?  Give us a call to schedule your appointment at 203-656-5656.

Fashion and Beauty for The Generations

The Darien Community Association held it’s first luncheon of the season and kicked it off with a “Fashion Show for the Generations” this past Tuesday, October 4th.  The fashion show featured clothing and accessories from The Darien Sports Shop and 10 beautiful models showed off two outfits each to a group of almost 100 ladies.

We were thrilled to provide hair and makeup for the models prior (and touch ups during!) to the fashion show.  A big thanks to Ourania, Natalya, Tina, Ali and Miro for coming in early and doing an absolutely beautiful job in styling all of the models hair.  Netta, Jessie and Dee provided gorgeous makeup applications on the ladies so needless to say, the models all looked amazing!

Once the lunch and fashion show were over, our talented Dee had a volunteer from the audience serve as her model to demonstrate how to achieve “The Perfect Smokey Eye”, as well as giving great makeup tips to all the ladies.  Dee took questions from the audience on her recommendations for makeup, the benefits of eyelash extensions and lots more!

The Difference Between Foil Highlights and Balayage

Foil highlighting is a process mostly all women are familiar with, and perhaps, maybe you yourself, have gotten foils to go lighter and brighter! Foil highlighting involves working row by row in a linear fashion and painting on color from the root to the end and processing with foils.  The entire section of hair is coated evenly for a more uniform effect.  So let’s explore what the difference is between these traditional highlights and the technique of balayage……

Screen Shot 2016-09-01 at 11.28.37 AM

Balayage is a French word which actually means to sweep or paint (also called a “freehand” technique).  Unlike foils, this technique allows the color professional the ability to place the color exactly where it will light up and enhance your individual features and coloring.  The color is painted on by hand and the colorist can scatter them throughout for a truly “sunkissed” look, which in turn is also more organic looking.  Unlike foils, where hair is lightened from the roots to the ends, the balayage technique allows hair to be more muted at the root and then getting progressively lighter.

In a nutshell, here are the things you need to know about balayage:

  • Softer, more natural and organic looking
  • More control over where color is placed
  • Less noticeable roots as hair grows out
  • More time in between touch ups as roots show less.  With foils there is more of a straight line at the root as it grows.

Interested in trying out this technique?  Schedule an appointment with one of our talented color professionals, and start the new season with a new look!

Sylvana came to the United States in 2000 and received her Massage Therapy License from the Galen Institute in Stamford, Connecticut.  She also is trained in the Orion AFT Laser System.

New Talent in Our Salon: Welcome Paula!

Paula comes to us with over 30 years experience in the beauty industry as well as training with Jaques Dessange, Goldwell, Wella and Loreal.  She has a long list of clients who have followed her wherever she goes, and for good reason!  Paula is not your average hair professional!  After a visit with Paula you are guaranteed to leave feeling uplifted and beautiful!  Why?  Because not only does she come with serious skills in cut and color but she also takes the time to carefully analyze your skin tone, bone structure and hair type to suggest the perfect style and color for you!  She is meticulous when it comes to her work.  The cut is precision and although bubbly and so very friendly, during a cut she needs the client to remain still and quiet so she can totally concentrate on her art!  That’s not to say you can’t interrupt if there is something you have a question about!  This quiet allows her to be ultra focused and you will reap the rewards with a fabulous haircut that is sure to get a million compliments!

Screen Shot 2016-04-18 at 10.04.10 AM

When it comes to color, Paula looks at your skin tone and eye color and determines if you fall into the “cool” or “warm” category.  Somewhere in between would be “neutral”, not too cool and not too warm.  Once the color has been established she will perhaps suggest a few highlights that will enhance the shape of the cut and illuminate your face to show off your best features!

Maintenance is something Paula discusses with each client, as she wants to be sure that the cut and color you desire will fit into your lifestyle.  She also specializes in Keratin Complex and Brazillian Blowouts for shiny hair with no frizzies! Finally, she makes the health of your hair a top priority and always strives to maintain the integrity of the hair for a flawless and healthy look!  Need a new look?  Book an appointment with Paula and leave with a spring in your step!

Andrew and Dee’s Love Story

heart-1137268_1280(1)

With Valentine’s Day arriving tomorrow, we thought we would share with you the very special love story of our Owners, Andrew and Dee Stefanou!

Dee was born right here in Fairfield County, Connecticut where she attended The National Academy of Cosmetology in Stamford, Connecticut.  After graduating, she went on to specialize in the art of makeup, where she won several awards for design and makeup (she’s way too humble to tell you this stuff, so we had to pry it out of her!).  Dee worked in New York City at several very upscale salons and ended up landing a job at Noelle Day Spa in Stamford, Connecticut.

Cut to Andrew:

Beautiful Cyprus! We would love to be here instead of sitting in 10 degree temps!

Andrew was born and raised in Cyprus, an island country in the Eastern Mediterranean Sea off the coasts of Syria and Turkey.  He attended school there through high school, where he received an outstanding education, as Cyprus is known for their high quality of schooling.  Andrew left Cyprus to attend Fordham University in New York and graduated with a Masters Degree in Economics.  After graduation he landed a position at a high-end salon and spa in Stamford, Connecticut.  What salon and spa?  Hmmmnn, well of course the same one Dee was working at!  This is where he first spotted the love of his life!  It was instant attraction and love at first sight (especially for Andrew, and who could blame him?!).  These lovebirds began dating exclusively in 1991 and subsequently tied the knot 5 years later!  It wasn’t long before their first child, a beautiful baby girl arrived, whom they named Alexandria.  Two years later they welcomed their handsome son, Theo and this family of four settled into life in Connecticut.

IMG_1409

Dee and Andrew decided to open their own salon and spa in 2011 with a very special concept!  Their vision was a serene, elegant, welcoming spa and salon, where they would only employ the very best talent in every area of their business.  Dee and Andrew’s vision was that each person walking into their salon and spa feel the warmth and kindness they exude (as well as each professional team member), and also know that they were receiving the very best service from their talented and professional team!  They both wanted to differentiate themselves from other spas in the area, and offer clients a medical grade spa (not all spas are created equal!), as well as to be a “cutting edge” salon that keeps up on all the latest in procedures, techniques and products.  Their salon and spa would also be affiliated with a top Plastic Surgeon, with whom they would work with to give clients the entire package.  Today they are affiliated with Dr. Frederic Newman of The Aesthetic Surgery Center of Darien.

These lovebirds will be celebrating their 20th anniversary this year and Andrew, ever the romantic will whisk his love off to an exotic, romantic destination (as he does every year!) where they can rest, rejuvenate and rekindle!  Dee shows Andrew her love and kindness every night by cooking him dinner, even after a long 12 to 14 hour day (now, that’s love!). Though they spend long hours together at work, and spend what little “free” time they have with each other as well, this beautiful couple manages to juggle it all, and still be each others Valentine year after year!

Happy Valentine’s Day Andrew and Dee!
